Acceptance of radio as a popular mass medium among the advertisers has once again been proved by the fact that revenue earned by All India Radio in 2002 - 2003 has crossed all previous records. Countrywide reach of All India Radio with its network of 111 Primary Channel Stations, 40 Vividh Bharati Centers, 75 Local Radio Stations and 12 FM Rainbow plus 4 FM Gold Stations - operating at four metro cities as an additional channel, makes it practically the ruler of the audio world. Central Sales Unit, All India Radio, Mumbai provides booking facility both for commercials and sponsored programmes to its clients under a Central Window for covering the entire network of any of the above Channels / Stations at Mumbai itself. The advertisers are also convinced of the fact that their products can reach the massive rural population only through the medium of All India Radio.
During the year 2002 - 2003 the Central Sales Unit has earned Rs.42 Crores through Commercial Bookings accounting for over 40% of the total earnings of AIR which is an improvement on its last year's earnings by nearly 14%. This growth in revenue is all the more remarkable in the face of stiff competition prevailing in the market with the emergence of private FM Channels. It could be achieved by the exemplary dedication of the Staff inspired by the able guidance of the Director of Sales, Central Sales Unit, for better results.
The goals set for the next year are still higher since radio listening has been showing an increasing trend. Efforts are afoot to attain greater heights by betterment of performance in the current year.
