


| AIR Supportive Hand - Making India a Nation Without Barriers
The young democracy enlisted the support of AIR for orchestrating and fine tuning the National Anthem. It took 2 years and several recordings of military bands, choirs and compositions by foreign composers to satisfy highly critical ears. No exaggeration if one call out AIR a godsend for remote areas. The Assamese station of Tezu, not connected by road or an all weather road, get marooned by the overflowing river Dagaru (meaning mad river) for 6 months and has to be reached by elephant back. Radio waves, fortunately, travel more speedily and easily ..... AIR High Standards : AIR has outset high notions for some of the most eminent musicians and vocalists. Ustad Ali Akbar Khan's magical sarod was heard often from the Lucknow station where he was employed as staff artist. The National Orchestra at AIR was set up under the conductorship of Pandit Ravi Shankar, established high standards of performance. Culture and Arts : A cultural renaissance of sorts took place on air in the fifties. Literateurs, musicologists, musicians, writers, poets, playwrights were invited to produce programmes of meaning and depth. It reflects that, the tradition continues ..... |
